Effects of a Cardiac Glycoside in Combination with Propranolol on the Ischemic Heart of Conscious Dogs STEPHEN
نویسنده
چکیده
The effects of coronary occlusion and of subsequent propranolol and ouabain administration were examined in 12 conscious dogs. Overall left ventricular (LV) function was assessed by measurement of LV pressure and dP/dt, and regional myocardial function was assessed by measurements of segment length (SL), velocity of SL shortening and regional myocardial "work," i.e., pressure-length loops in normal and moderately and severely ischemic zones. Regional intramyocardial electrograms were measured at the same sites as function along with regional myocardial blood flow as determined by the radioactive microsphere technique. Coronary occlusion resulted in graded loss of function from the normal to severely ischemic zones, along with graded flow reductions and

Effects of cardiac depression and of anesthesia on the myocardial action of a cardiac glycoside.
The effects of ouabain (G-strophanthin) 20 mug/kg, on left ventricular (LV) pressure (P), diameter (D), velocity of contraction (dD/dt), and dP/dt were studied in conscious dogs instrumented with ultrasonic diameter gauges and miniature pressure gauges. The effects of ouabain were compared on separate occasions in the same dogs after cardiac depression with propranolol, 3.0 mg/kg, and also afte...
متن کاملEffect of Propranolol on Angiogenic Factors in Human Hematopoietic Cell Lines in vitro
Background: Beta-adrenergic blocking agents have been broadly used for treatment of many cardiovascular diseases such as arterial hypertension and ischemic heart failure. Anti-tumoral, anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenesis effects of propranolol (a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker) have been shown. Angiogenesis (replenish of the pre-existing vascular networks) plays a critical role in s...

Objective(s) This study aimed to examine whether acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) was able to reduce cardiac arrhythmias and infarct size in the ischemic-reperfused isolated rat heart. Materials and Methods The isolated hearts were mounted on a Langendorff apparatus then perfused by a modified Krebs-Henseleit solution during 30 min regional ischemia and 120 min reperfusion (control) or by enriched K...
متن کاملThe role of arterial baroreceptors in mediating the cardiovascular response to a cardiac glycoside in conscious dogs.
To determine the role of the arterial baroreceptor reflex in mediating the cardiovascular response to a cardiac glycoside, we examined the effects of ouabain (G-strophanthin), 17.5 mug/kg, iv, on direct and continuous measurements of left ventricular diameters, pressures, velocity of shortening, (dP/dt)/P, arterial pressure, cardiac output, and total peripheral resistance. These studies were co...
